Alex Zucker lives in the USA and translates prose and poetry from Czech into English, as well as plays, essays, non-fiction, films and song lyrics. He holds, among other things, a master's degree in international relations with a focus on Eastern and Central European countries and a scholarship programme for teaching Czech at Columbia University in New York.
He has translated works into English for the English or American market by, for example, Magdalena Platzová (Life After Kafka, Bellevue Literary Press 2024; The Attempt, Bellevue Literary Press 2016), Jáchym Topol (A Sensitive Person, Margellos World Republic of Letters, Yale University Press 2023; Angel Station, Dalkey Archive Press 2017 etc.), Petra Hůlová (The Movement, World Editions 2021, etc.), Bianca Bellová, Michal Viewegh, Patrik Ouředník, Ladislav Fuks and others. For his translations, he has received numerous awards.
For the anthology The Book of Prague: A City in Short Fiction (eds. Ivana Myšková and Jan Zikmund, Comma Press, Great Britain, 2023), he translated Patrik Banga's short story "Žižkovite" from the anthology Všude samá krása (Nothing But Beauty Everywhere, Kher 2021).
For the Kher publishing house, he translated a selection from the anthologies Všude sama krása and Velvet blues (Velvet Blues, Kher 2021), supplemented with a new short story "Where to Now?" by Mária Hušová, which was published under the title Velvet Blues (Kher, Karolinum 2025).
