Horvátová, Rena

Rena Horvátová graduated from the Evangelical Academy of Law and Social Work in Prague. In her career, she has for instance worked as a producer for the magazine Romano voďi / Romani Soul and on a number of cultural projects. For Slovo 21, she has coordinated the PR activities of the Khamoro World Romani Festival, served as its spokesperson on several occasions, and has also been in charge of other PR projects for the organization. She started writing for the magazine Romano voďi and the Slovo Bulletin. Today, she works as an external editor and presenter for Czech Radio's O Roma vakeren / The Roma Speak minority broadcast, and is also an editor for Romano voďi magazine, where she focuses on interviews with distinguished Roma. She was also one of the editors in the Hate Free Culture Project (2014-2024). She works at the Czech Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs.

She made her debut in the anthology O mulo! Povídky o duchách zemřelých (Look, A Ghost! Stories About the Ghosts of the Dead, Kher, 2019) with the short story “Já si vybral tebe” / “I Chose You”. In 2020, she won the Romano suno competition organized by Nová škola in the adult category. The winning story, “Hej tu!” / “Hey You!” was published in the anthology Amare ternenge – Romani Authors Write for Young People. Her story “Výbuch v Nuslích” / “The Explosion in Nusle” is featured in the anthology Všude samá krása (Nothing But Beauty Everywhere, Kher, 2021). Her short story “Ma rov, mro čho, ma rov” / “Don’t You Cry My Boy” was published in the anthology Fameľija nadevše (Family Above All Else, Slovo 21 2024), and her piece “Ticho v náručí” / “The Empty Arms” was published a year later in the collection Podphandle mašľičkenca (Tubes Tied With Ribbons, Slovo 21 2025).
